Should have been a single
Pros
  • That chorus..my lord
Cons
  • none
Listening to this again this track freaking rocks. What's that instrument they play during the chorus? A guitar with effects? Almost sounds like keyboards at times... Whatever it is it's awesome. Love this track. Loved hearing it when they played live when I saw them in the 90s. Please play more. :)

Listening to it more today. Seriously this was one of their best songs on the album. Should have been a single.

Still holds up
Pros
  • Ghost
  • Heropsychodreamer
  • Century
  • Gas Hed
  • Rattlesnake
Cons
  • Freaks? (ok song but I wish others were singles)
I remember the anticipation I had for this album before it was released when I was a sophomore at college. I of course loved and devoured Mental Jewelry and Throwing Copper during high school and went to every show I could in the Boston area.

Two days before the album was released I saw them at UNH and heard most of the songs from the new album. They had already been playing Lakini's Juice on the radio for a month.

I distinctly remember two days later after I rushed to Tower Records and getting the CD walking through the Boston campus listening to the album the first time. Rattlesnake was a great start. I remember hearing that Ed and the band were at the Rattlensake bar in Boston before a show - I remember thinking I should have known they'd go there. lol

The entire album still holds up even after listening to it right now.

Ghost and Gas Hed are probably two of my favorite tracks from the album listening to it again. Freaks was the second single released and I've always been meh about that song. Century would have been a better single. Heropsychodreamer is of course awesome and was the name for my first Līve fan site on Geocites. :) Turn My Head of course is great but I think I like some of the other tracks better than the singles they released.

Hopefully, there will be some heavier guitars in Līve's new release as there were on this album and Throwing Copper.

It was a heavier direction for the band and I loved it.

Probably my favorite Līve song
Pros
  • moving singing on chorus
  • Ed's voice
This is probably my favorite song. Ed's vocals on the chorus never fails to move me. Shepherd! Love the polyphony (I had to google what it was called) of two lyrics being sung over eachother at the end.

All Over You

One of my all time favs
Pros
  • A blast to play on the guitar
Cons
  • None
  • Lyrics make no sense
What an awesome song they wrote. Can it be 6 stars? Heavy and rocking, great chorus. I miss the heavy guitar stage of Live... bring it back in some new tracks Ed. :)

Lyrics don't make sense but who cares. It is such a blast to bellow out rock out to. (this whole album is) Awesome and fun and easy to play on guitar as well. Playing along with the entire TC album is such a blast.

Ed's lyrics can go from deep to nonsensical. All Over You is nonsensical. Mirror Song & Lightning Crashes etc are deep. But it doesn't matter because it's such a rocking song.
Great chorus - wish they played this live
It's been a long time since I listened to this album and only started listening to it again after I started this site. This is a killer track. I'm surprised I've never heard them play it live... the chorus is extremely uplifting.

Are you listening Ed? Play this track. ;)
Best new Live music in a long time!
Great new track! Took me a couple of listens to get into it but I'm really digging it. Best new track from Live since Birds of Pray! (Local 717 was not good) Love the guitar and the new vibe. Sounds like an awesome track to play live. Really looking forward to hearing more from their new album. It sounds like Ed's really getting into a groove with his new band and I hope more awesome music comes out of the new group.

My favorite Mental Jewelry song :)
This is a great song and I wish Ed would write more songs like this again. The lyrics are extremely poignant statement on society and are still applicable today.

I love the floor Tom hits and rolls. I love the break and rasp in Ed’s voice. Also the simplicity of the production is a great choice for this song.

You mention specific drum elements.... Are you a drummer? Neat that you know what the sounds are made from.

Also be sure to post your own review for the song when you can. :)
Favorite track of the album
This is without a doubt my favorite track of the album. The lyrics are wonderful and there's just so much raw emotion when Ed is singing the chorus. Very moving song.

I wish they played it when I saw them recently.

Sadly... The worst Līve album
With the exception of Overcome (wasn't it recorded earlier too?) I'm sorry guys but this album really stinks.

It really felt like they were trying to be something they weren't. "Someone should take your microphone" Ugh. Trying way too hard.

I seem to remember Ed had a beef with Fred Durst around this time. Maybe the song is about that but... Totally not what the band is.

Thankfully the next two albums made up for this drek.

Am I forgetting another good song besides Overcome? I don't think so. Forever might not be long enough is ok.

Oh well. They can't get it right all the time.

Hero of Love is ok too.

I actually prefer V over Birds of Prey and WAY more than SFBM!

Really? Yeah I'm not a big fan. I like those albums but they are definitely lighter than earlier ones. My favorites are still Throwing Copper and Mental Jewelry.

Review your favorite albums and songs here when you can so they go to the top of the rated list. :)

If you have any questions on how to do it please let me know.

The best Līve album
Without a doubt the best album. Mental Jewelry is a very close second.

From the slow to intense build of The Dam At Otter Creek to the tongue in cheek hidden track Horse there isn't one bad song. The entire album kicks some serious arse. Otter Creek really captures the feeling of their early live shows. Selling the Drama borrows some of their thought provoking lyrics from Mental Jewelry and I Alone is just an excellent track with calm moments into heavy hitting choruses.

Iris rocks and the ballad of Pillar of Davidson has always been my favorite of the album.

I've often thought how awesome it would be for the band to play the entire album all the way through.

White, Discussion was an amazing closer for concerts when the band had all 4 members but it doesn't hit as hard as it does now. Maybe it will again. I just remember Patrick and Chad doing some really great stuff with the bass and guitar distortion live. But I digress...

Amazing album that I can play anytime and I used to be able to play the whole thing on my guitar too. :)

Been meaning to write a review of the song for a while, it was the first song I ever heard and it made me realize that songs could give me all the feels.

A review would be awesome when you can. Trying to get more reviews on the site.
Such a great, raw, and beautiful album
I heard Selling the Drama on the radio and ordered Mental Jewelry thinking it was the correct album - it wasn't - but it didn't matter. I was hooked. Beautiful and deep songs that still hold up until this day. Mirror Song is probably one of my favorites from it.
This is the Live I remember
I remember Live doing the long version of this song when I saw them perform in the 00s. Sadly they didn't do this version when I saw them this year at Yaamava.

Just an incredible performance. The energy of the band and the crowd is amazing.
