The Dam at Otter Creek is a great song, definitely a good introduction but not Live's best work.
The slow start allows the listener to get eased into the album, and when it finally picks up speed at around the three-minute mark, it elevates the chorus very nicely. Though it is very good and highlights a lot of Live's skills, like the pacing shifts, it doesn't necessarily live up to their greatest hits. In my opinion, a lot of the song is a little too shouty, and while the lyrics are interesting, they don't have the same depth and variation that many of the other songs on the album do. Overall, definitely quality but doesn't reach the same heights as some of their others, though I could see why some would rate it higher.
