So he’s the odd man out if you like Ed? Can’t you like both? I’m not a fan of his stuff outside Live and without numbers to prove it, I do believe it’s one of the worst selling albums of the band. But what are your feelings on him and his time with the band. Personally, I loved open the door and there were 2 or 3 other songs I liked. I felt bad for the guy, I feel like he got a tough break. What are your thoughts?

I certainly never had any interest in listening to the album without Ed. Felt like a betrayal as Ed was the heart and main songwriter of the band.

The whole breakup stunk. :(

I love Chris, he is a good friend and the reality was Ed was always going to come back and Chris acknowledged that multiple times. To call it a betrayal is a bit much and honestly shows a lack of understanding of the situation as a whole. I was intertwined with the band during that whole process and saw and heard things that would change your perspective completely, but that's just my two cents.

I'm sure I do have a lack of understanding with the situation! :) But I'm only going off of what I know that has been said publicly. The whole mess is sad to me.

My wording of betrayal was a bit harsh yes I acknowledge that. I'm sure Chris is great! But Live without Ed really isn't Live in my opinion.

Other bands like Van Halen who changed their vocalist worked because Eddie was the draw not the singer. Ed's voice was/is the draw of the band. The other three are great too of course but not what people are listening to when they think of Live.

Hopefully one day they'll be able to get over their grievances and infighting (again) but I'm not sure that'll happen.

So I’m glad you bring up Van Halen…definitely the argument that Ed is/was Live could be made, I think I read he wrote all the lyrics and like 40% of the melodies for their music, but DLR at that time WAS the voice of VH. How many bands last on just a guitarist (look at Van Halen III)?
I look from the perspective as a fan of now I have more to listen to, we had classic Live, TGF, Ed solo, Live with a new singer, (if you’re into it) Chris’ other projects….
In the band, you definitely get ego issues and riffs between members (I think Paul Stanley put it best when he said we live in an age where 2 people get divorced over 50% of the time and now you have a 4 way marriage, it’s really hard to keep everyone happy). But from the fans perspective, you get way more material when one guy leaves and starts a new band. The reunion would be great, or would it?
