What other bands would you say are comparable to Live in sound and style. For me I always associated them with bands like Collective Soul, Default, Fuel, Gin Blossoms to name a few

Ah yeah Fuel. They were great. I'd say Creed too. Back in the day when I had my Līve website in the 90s the band reached out to me and sent me their first album before it came out so I'd promote it on my site. I thought it was pretty good.

That’s awesome, was it Live who reached out to you (or creed)? I would imagine Live lol based on your website

That's awesome, how big was your site then? Was it a forum as well?
No it was pretty much just a blog or what would be a blog today. I don't think blogging software was mainstream -site was on geocitities. I hard coded all the html myself.

I don't think that definitively any bands are truly similar to Live. Live itself is an amalgamation of many other bands due to their early influences (U2, REM, Psychedelic Furs, Peter Gabriel, etc.), but over time bands evolve and bring in other taste of the moment. So making direct comparisons are hard, so I think it's easier to say perhaps naming bands/artists influenced by Live.

Daughtry (sp?) definitely is. I worked on his season of American Idol editing the Ford music videos and met the whole case multiple times during the shoots. I remember there being some controversy when he covered Live's rendtition of Walk the Line without giving credit.

If I had to relate them to someone, I would say U2 in the fact they had/have a unique sound no one has really copied and address more elevated topics (humanity, god, nature) as opposed to the normal sex, drugs and R&R. Not that Live didn’t touch on those as well….

Yes, Chris Daughtry (who I've met a few times and discussed Live) was influenced by Live and has said as much many times over. His cover of Johnny Cash's "I Walk The Line" was the center of that American Idol controversy. Daughtry's cover was lauded as genius and unique, but in reality his arrangement was nothing more than a strict cover of Live's version that they recorded for a Sun Record's Tribute album. Daughtry the next week would give an "apology" stating his arrangement was actually from the band Live and of course, would later perform with Live on American Idol.
