Ed did an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and had some insights on Līve's quick rise to the top in the 90s. “It was really just crazy timing,” Kowalczyk said. “We formed in the mid-1980s and got a record deal in 1990. We had a college rock record ‘Mental Jewelry’ that went gold. How could it get better? Nirvana broke in 1991. That was the beginning of modern rock. Then ‘Throwing Copper’ came out. We went from being super inspired by modern rock to being part of it. We had...
A short documentary on Līve called "Everything Normal in Normal" shot in 1995 featuring an interview with Ed Kowalczyk and Chad Taylor as well as tour staff and fans. Some stills from the interview:
Ed K from Līve just did an excellent LONG (~60 minute) interview with Scott Lipps on the Lipps Service podcast. Highly recommend listening to the whole thing as it had great tidbits and anecdotes from the early days of the band. There's also great info about the new lineup and new music they're recording: He was asked if he was nervous about putting 'Lady Bhang (She Got Me Rollin')' out into the world as it was the first new song in seven years since the Local 717 ep. "I was but now that...
Ed recently did a podcast on LoudWire with Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo. He said the new lineup is here to stay. "Man, I'm so excited to be recording again. We just recorded a little bit in Austin in June... actually put a song together called Lady Bhang which Dean played some slide guitar on so we're dropping that on 8/16... we play that on tour a little bit. It's a rocker and fun. ...To be recording again and making new music it's a really big moment. Had some change ups Live 2.0...
Lancaster Online recently interviewed Līve's Chad Taylor after his recent launch with his new band Chad Taylor and Friends which sold out two shows at the Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse. "Chad Taylor is ready for a comeback, but it has to be on his terms. Taylor is perhaps known for being alternative rock band Live's former guitarist and backing vocalist. The York County-native band rose to fame in 1994 with its album, "Throwing Copper," that features singles like "Lightning Crashes," "All...
I found this CD with an old interview with Līve when going through my old boxes with Līve stuff in them. I was going to rip it and post it but I found a version online. Chad Gracey talks first, then Ed, then I lose track. It was kind of bittersweet to listen to it knowing that they are now only 1/4 of the original band but it was all great to listen to. They talk about Selling the Drama and the origin of the Throwing Copper name and more. Enjoy!
NOTE: This article I found on the Geocities archive while searching for my old Līve fansite. Enjoy! SOY: What bass equipment do you use? Guitars? Amps? Effects? PATRICK: My onstage gear for this tour has included two Precision Basses, a '65 and a '64. (I'm sorry to say that the '65 became firewood after I tossed it at the MTV Awards). '71 Gibson Les Paul Signature bass, '76 Gibson Thunderbird, new 5-string Jazz Bass (A prototype the nice people at Fender sent me) and a few Vigier six and...
NOTE: This article I found on the Geocities archive while searching for my old Līve fansite. Enjoy! SOY: I saw Live in England this summer, at Wolverhampton, and you said in one of the interviews that the worst place you'd ever played was Europe in general, why is this? GRACEY: Personally, I don't like going to or playing in Europe. It's hard to explain exactly why so I'll leave it at that. SOY: I want to know how it feels not to be as well known as, for example, Ed, is. I also want to...
NOTE: This article I found on the Geocities archive while searching for my old Līve fansite. Enjoy! SOY: What is your approach to the guitar as an instrument? Are you really attached to certain ones, or are they more utilitarian to you? TAYLOR: I definitely don't think about the equipment of effects or anything like that. I prefer less. Less is more in my world. I like to use the instrument to express my feelings and thoughts. I feel that complex things, technology, gets in the way of...
NOTE: This article I found on the Geocities archive while searching for my old Līve fansite. Enjoy! SOY: Who first inspired you to be a musician? ED: I'd have to say when I was 5 years old, a friend of my mom's daughter, she was about 3 years older than me. I remember singing to songs on the radio with her like Sonny and Cher and I used to lip sync all the time with her and one day she told me to get some kahonies and open up my mouth and sing. I realize at that point that I actuall could...
